Robin Hood Movies reviews

Hello again, it has been a long time but I am trying to make some time to return here, to the digital world. I had thought of many things I could talk about here and topics but it is late at night and I was watching on of the many versions of Robin hood and wanted to share some thoughts on it.

Robin Hood has been remade and retold in so many forms, the first movie to grace the world of the the tale of Robin and his men was in 1908 and went by the name Robin Hood and His Merry Men, if you go by Wikipedia. But of the first set of remakes and the one that started the love of Robin was during the silent era in 1922, with Douglas Fairbanks. A name that was as well known as John Wayne or Brad Bit are today. This silent film inspired the next well known film in 1938, Adventures of Robin Hood, hat out ranked the 1922 version, this remake stared the loved action star Errol Flynn in what many say was his greatest role. From here list goes on, just look at IMDB when you type in Robin Hood!

I will not go into details on all the films, shorts or even covers just a few that I remember that set me up for the story of how one man can inspire so many, live outside the law when the law is unjust and corrupted by the government and be so humble that he want nothing more then to give his riches to those in need.

Let me begin with the one from my earliest memory of Robin, Disney's animated Robin Hood.

Before I was born in 1973, Walt Disney made this beloved animated cartoon with animals. As a child I never thought of the animals representing anything but just being fun. Now, many years later and looking back I see that it was not just random but planned.

I will not go into a lot of detail but I will say this, the songs, animation, and story shown with animals was a great idea for a child to fall in love with this classic story. Although not all the characters in the original story made it into this version, and with that I mean Will. He has been in many versions and not all in a good way.

I do love the voice cast, for they used the talents of people who had the roles in another Disney movie, the Jungle Book.

As a side comment I will bring back up how there was an older very well know Robin Hood movie from 1938 with  Errol Flynn. This was so well known that in 1949 when Warner Brothers did Rabbit Hood with Bugs Bunny they had a small clip at the end  with his Iconic line, "Welcome to Sherwood."

WB did other short films with reference to Robin but I will not get into that today, just know they are there.

I have not seen these in so long that it seems like a distinct memory, I do remembering loving the Bugs Bunny versions since it was not the normal story line. It was Bugs being Bugs, and him dealing with the sheriff in his way meeting other known players in the story and him nothing thinking Robin was even a real person. Seeing the clip at the end told me there was another out there that one day I might see and understand this nod to another film.

The Errol Flynn film, that took the world is still a great classic to see and once you see this you will find small hints of this film in others, like the Disney's animated movie, the remake in 91 and then Mel Brook's - but I am getting ahead of myself.

Again many, many remakes, shorts, parodies, and of the like from this 1938 with Errol Flynn to the the 1964 musical set in 1930's Chicago called Robin and the 7 Hoods staring Frank Sinatra to the 1973 Disney animated film to my next film in 1991 that became a big reference point in the Robin Hood Films.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 1991 had a huge cast of people, Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, and Sean Connery. Now a fun fact to know about Sean being in this film is that this was he third time in the Robin Hood movies but now he played King Richard over Robin. He was in the 1976 Robin and Marian film with the lovely Audrey Hepburn and something smaller in the 80's

But I bring this film up next not because it was the next film I saw in the Robin series I saw growing up but because without seeing this movie the Film that Mel Brooks does not meet all that it can be!

This film is the first that I can think of that bring in diversity and new characters to the story line that made this one different then the others making it stand out from the other remakes.

Just a few years later Mel Brooks took this film and made a parody of it in 1993 calling it Robin Hood: Men in Tights using Costner's version from 1991 and Flynn's from 1938. This film was so well done and is one of my Favorite films that he did, the attention to details strait to the makes and hair to the characters themselves is just something to see and can not be explained!

To fully appreciate this film I would HIGHLY recommend to see both Flynn and Costner's films. I did not see the 1991 Robin Hood till after I saw this film and still loved it and found it supper funny. I saw the 1991 film and my jaw dropped on how close Mel had taken things to the one in the 90's with little reference to the 1938.

After what I feel was a master piece to round off the Robin Hood series comes the 2010 remake with Russel Crow, this was a different take then all the others. Robin was not Loxley, Marian was not a maiden and she was not the kind of woman to stand by.

Marian was played by Cate Blanchett, whom now I find it hard to see her in anything not fairy tale like or fantasy with her roles from Lord of the Rings and Thor.

This film was not awful, it was different and gave a new tell to the story. Not may favorite but decent, I watched it twice only realizing I watched it once half way through the movie a second time.

This film is darker then then the others and does not follow the same war that the others talk about getting the king back. They also have a all the main people, Will, Little John, Tuck and 2 more that that escape me.

The last film I want to end with is the one from 2018.

I am at a lost for words on this film, when I heard about it I thought, 'oh, just another remake maybe with a twist'

I was not far from the mark, this is Robin Hood with huge twists. I felt like I was watching a steam punk or sci fi influenced version of Robin Hood. you had a nod to the 1991 film with an Arab friend helping Robin out, you have you main cast.

I did love how the made Marian a thief in the beginning of the movie and it was different to see medieval wear with more modern flares to it.

This was not my favorite, and in truth it is hard to be the 1993 spoof of Robin hood for me but for a younger crowed who want something different, maybe with a little Steam Punk flare this is up your ally.

After looking up all the dates on these films, for there was no way I would remember all the dates on these films I found some that I think is just fun to mention and one I would like to see.

2017 Hindi Film
2012 German/USA film
What film did you see? Would like to see? Or was your favorite in this crazy list of remakes and such?

New year, New Resultions

So, as I seem to do every year is post something to bring in the new year with something, anything that comes to mind with something to make life more bearable or more interesting depending on how you look at it or what is going on my world.

Yes, January is almost over but that will not stop this post!

Last year I wanted to read 40 books (not counting Manga/comics) Did not quite make it half way unless I count manga then I passed it all. :(

When reading books from a reading challenge it is hard to stay on track when people from all corners lend you books. I found that when people hear you are doing a reading challenge they end up telling you, 'that you must read this book!' Some people didn't know and handed me books anyways but we where talking about books since I had books on the brain.

Last year was the year of reading but not all the books on my challenge but since I was tying to leave an easy life I didn't fret. This year, I am going to change it up! I am going to read book as they come, lent or found and work on weeding through the books and get rid of those I will not reread nor recommend to other keeping only my favorites or those I would like to read a clip from and record it for auditions. With the new reading challenge in mind as what to read first, setting those as a priority!

Not only will the challenge help keep me on track but it will help clean out the bookcases so the next I move -which my be sooner then I had planned, depending how things go- my life will be so much easer when moving these wonderful yet heave addition I have with less of them to pack.

As for the Easy Living, yes it was great to just relax without caring to much on things but I found that there where something's that I did very much care on and have realized what things in my life are worth more and ways to keep that stress down since now I know it is something that I do care on.

Did I get each room clean with this easy way of life? Not so much but I did take my time and learn to say good bye to things that once had a purpose and meaning to me that now do not and just take up space, space I do not have for them so I would try to find them a lovely home. In the end We have to remember that things are just that and the memory does not lie with them but within, and one can always take a photo and scrap book it.

And during my 30th year on this earth I will work on getting studio equipment to record videos and audio tapes to get those sent out by the end of my 30th year and wait for the replay (if any) the year after.

Summery, read books to clean off self (reading challenge from Popsuger as primary books) and To get Studio equipment for recording both audio and Video.

Good luck on your journey through your New year!

PopSugar 2017 Reading challange

Okay, so here is the list I have decide on so far, now the idea here was to pick one for each number (for the ambushes reader I can be) also I believe this is the way Popsugar intended it to be but for me and my easy living motto I am trying this year I also wanted to make sure that they crossed over to other areas incase don't get to all 40. Also encase any who reads this would like to join me I will have a list of books to help with ideas.

Besides the "one for each" doubles as cross overs I also tried picking from my TBR list and books that I already owned, since I do not own all there will be a few I will go out to look to barrow or buy or rent (for the audio ones). Starting for the ones I have had on my list the longest (The first ones I listed on Goodreads in the day not the ones that have collected dust) and such. So by doing this all the books listed cross over to the category of  "been on my list to long", there might be one or 2 that are not as long but still to long for me.

I did go ahead and list other areas that each book could be listed under and making those one I will read before others with less areas. So that I would know the other areas that each book could be listed under I went a head and put the number of each area to scroll and see.

Motto of the year, "Simple Life"

Happy New Year! 明けましておめでとう!  새해 복 많이 받으세요!
Bonne année! And 'happy new year' in another languages you know or can think of! ^_^

In the flavor of the new year, and all the resolutions that last about a month or so, I like to keep it easy but instead of a resolutions I am doing a Motto, "Easy Living". In Japan when a new emperor is 'crowned' they have a 'motto' for their reign or era. Heisei was the one chosen in 1989 and is the current era; Heisei is intended to mean "peace everywhere".  Now for me, Easy Living is gonging to mean take each day as it comes, (do that anyways) declutter my life and living and mind. So in lite of the decluttering I am going to take this time to go through my recipes and that I have been saving and make them, as for any who knows me I have a janky oven and I do not usually cook so this will be a struggle for me. Going to go through each room in my apartment and get rid of things I don't need or no longer use.

Now for some people this is very Stressful to do, and cooking and getting rid of recipes is time consuming and therefore becoming stressful for me. Letting go to certain things in my life is also hard to do but I have been caring it from place to place and move to move and keeping it is more stressful at this time then letting it go. So how to counter?

Well you can always find tips and tricks that will work best for you in your own life but me, I am a blend of stuff so I take bits of pieces from about anything. Knowing what works best for me is learning more about myself and can be looked as a self journey.

This nice picture I found on Google and has some nice tips and tricks on it that I find most useful to me and my style of life and cleaning!

In the end it is the memories they hold and even if there was a fire and I lost it all or if I give it away or have it stolen I can take photos of it so I remembered what it looked liked but the memory of what happened with the object will always be a memory photo or clutter. And that is something that is helping me move on with my life without it being in my life now.

So here is my 'Simple Living' life and how I plan to make my life more simple by getting rid of what is cluttering it up!

  1. Each month I pick a new room (not forgetting basic stuff in the other rooms) and gut it! For my first room I picked my Bathroom. It is small making it easy to go through and give it the good scrub! (walls and all I can be OCD on the cleaning and it stresses me each year) Also, we all know how much stuff we get around the holydays (i.e. lotions, travel stuff, and meds)  make my 3 piles; keep/recycle, give/sell, and toss. (I make the trash can the toss pile) As much as I hate my self I do make a pile on TBD and carry it around with me to each room so it never leaves my mind and at the end I will see how much I wanted it, if I am tried of carrying it around it goes and still can't get rid of it, it stays.
  2. To power through the saved recipes do one new recipe a week, that gives me 52 recipes. This takes the cooking stress down for me and if I miss a week then I can do 2 the next and so forth.
  3. To get through more recipes, I am doing 1 desert like food a month. If I feel like doing more I can but I don't need to. Now since my stove does not like cakes and cookies from me I will not be doing anything like that till I work out this janky stove.
  4. Upload liked recipes into my online recipe book so that I have it any where I go and take it off the self and box so I can see what other ones I have yet to do.
  5. Wile I sit and enjoy my cats, movie/TV, and food take about 5-10 minuets a day to go through all the papers I have collected over the years and take care of my piles, file or recycle.
On  a separate note, I am going to take a whack at the PopSugar 2017 reading list this year and see what happens, It has been on my to do list like NaNoWriMo (and that didn't go so well with life advents that took place that month) But I will give this a crack just to spice up the simple life!

Happy Going on your better life challenges you made!

Anime Reveiw - 2015 Summer (Aired)

Hey all! It has been some time since I have been on, not by choice but by life. But I will not bore you with the details. Over the summer I was watching a lot of anime since my new life has me up till late so at times it is hard for me to sleep like a normal person so I stay up with the newest anime shown on Cruchyroll. (AMAZING place!!)

Since I was finding myself waiting for the next episode to air I stated other ones to help pass the time. Now as much has I love anime there are some I would say, "check it out" where as others would be, "you can check it out." With that in mind I thought I would bring this summer anime list from Crunchyroll to an end with my one of a kind review!

Okay, I know it is not that special but hey, after last summer it is all I can do from not falling over in execution! You can also keep up to date with the latest anime and such at www.animenewsnetwork.com. You can also read up on older anime too!
*If you are looking for more information on ANY and ALL of these animes you can always look on Wiki. One thing I would say is google it and look at other people searches, you will see what other people liked who watched theses anime series. Also, I will be most likely GIVING away SPOILERS, will try not to though. (this is you only warning)*

Actually, I am (Jitsu wa Watashi wa) 13ep

I think this is a fun anime to watch if you are into stuff like Ah My Goddess and Rosario + Vampire

Like all harem-like animated series you have the main guy who some how finds himself with ALL these girls who want to be with him and they are all friends with each-other. (like that happens)

What I like about it is that it takes a different look on the paranormal and that it not only has Vampires and Werewolves but also Demons, Demigods and Aliens. I personally liked the way the Werewolf is shown. I think this gives the outlook of a werewolf more reality to how they would be.

I liked trying to guess who was what before I realized that it had a mix of paranormal and Sci Fi.

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? No.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Depends on what they like and how much they like panty shots.

Aoharu x Machinegun (Aoharu x Kikanjuu)13ep
This one is one of my favorites this summer, and would say over all favorite. It feels like a more grown up version of Ouran High School Host Club.

In this one you have Haru (also O.H.S.H.C. main heroin) who dresses like a boy and gets mistaken for one ALL the time with her tomboy ways! (sounds familler?) Then ends up joining an all male team to play in survival games due to a debt and never had more fun in her life!

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? Sure.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Yeah.
  • Would I recommend this to a Ouran fan or tomboy/military anime fan? Yes!

Charlotte 13ep

Another Favorite of the summer, this anime starts out like one would expect then gets dark/depressing real fast but picks back up (kinda predictable from the Opening)

This anime is almost x-man like with only certen humans having "gifts" that they can use for good or evil and having to balance that life.
  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? Sure.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Yeah.

Classroom*Crisis 13ep

Classroom Crisis was another one that I ended up really liking wishing that they would give this one another season. This anime deals with a future world where big corporate are in-charge of the world in short.

I liked how young kids/teens not only went to school but also worked. Now I like that there are children labor laws and such to stop what once went on but I also believe that young people CAN and should work and work just as hard as adults- but that is another rant. I degrees, having them practice what they learn making them better at the work. Homeroom teachers also being their boss, nice touch.

If you are looking for a little space and racing with a who murder Mr Body and where is is kid. This has the mix.

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? Sure.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Yeah.

Gate - Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri 12ep

I am supper happy to say that this anime from the summer was given a second season. I know up to here there has been many favorites but so is this one!

What I loved about it is that it has the "real world" and the fantasy in one. If you ever wanted to see a helicopter fly next to a dragon this would be your show!

You have a guy you is into the whole fantasy world and games who finds himself now becoming part of this world while the fantasy world learns to became part of his.

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? Sure.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Yeah.

Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers- (Rokka no Yūsha) 12ep

I see great things and a fallowing for this one. I Loved this one has well. I felt it was a little like the Twelve Kingdoms. A fantasy world with heroes to save it learning who and whom not to trust.

I am the person that tries to see who killed Mr Body and such and this one kinda through me. I thought one thing then rethought it thinking that 'no, that would have happened.'

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? Sure.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Yeah.

Everyday Life with Monster Girls {(Monster Musume no Iru Nichijō) 12ep

With ALL the ones I haved liked though the summer I find myself moving to ones that where just eh.

This anime is a fan service anime. One guy with 6 women -mostly busty, all wanting to have sex with the one guy. If you are into that this is for you. The main idea of the world discovering other worlds with monsters in them that can be friendly is fun and making it so that they are like exchange students with homes to live in and such is also a cool way to think about it.

I did REALY love one moment in the Opening credit and Closing credits. I feel that this opening and closing was done very nicely and when one person puts down her mug it made me want to pause it and screen shot it!

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? No.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Depends on the person.

Million Doll 12ep

Another eh anime for me over the summer but I did mind it. Also it was never long. More like a mini ep each time.

This anime is about teen idols and how powerful blogs can be. There are 2 sets of singer/groups trying to be the next me thing. A blogger promotes one and a journalist spreads the word about another. They all are somehow connected to this one idol but is never really explained how.

When each group goes to sing they are changed into a 3D form that to me seems a bit off. I feel their heads get bigger then the 2D that they are drawn with.
  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? No.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Depends on the person.

Makura no dansahi (lit "Pillow Boys") 12ep

This one.... I was not sure what to think really. This is more of a short like Million Doll. Normaly you have fan survices to guys but this was fully ment for girls.

Pillow Boys is the best I can think of for calling this series.  If you played a simulation like game where you say certain things to get the guy/gal you wanted in a game and that was the whole game. This is more or less what that is. Every episode is a different guy that "hears" you say things and reacts to what they "heard you" say all ending with lets go to bed.

If you want to see an anime guy flirt with you before bed to help you sleep this is the only anime I can think of for you!

  • Would I recommend this to a non-anime lover? No.
  • Would I recommend this to another who likes anime? Depends on the person.

Star Trek - Quick & Easy Cosplay!

Okay, so in my town they are going to have STAR TREK: MIND-SIFTER showing at one of the theaters and the guy who wrote it will be there and if for every person who shows up 'Trek-y' or in OTHER sci fi cosplay he will donate a set amount UP TO $500 to help out for reading where I am currently living.

Am I this much of a Trek-y to do this? Not really, I LOVED the original one with Spock and James Kirk. Have seen a few of the other ones here and there but not a full out Trek-y like I would say I am to.... Anime? Naw, okay so I am not a the why to anything I can think of at this time!

But I do love Science Fiction and the original one so yes I will see it, I will move things around so I can see it but am I going to dress up to see this for a cause? Sure, not because of  being a Trek-y or for the honrable cause but becasue I am a nerd who is a theatre person and LOVES to dress up when the situation comes by!

So this got me thinking... How can I do a REALLY fast STAR TREK costume? Sure it was any other kind a sci fi thing but I would do something from STAR TREK. I mean really, I am GOING to see it! So as I am thinking about it I think of the crazy aliens that I have seen in Deep Space, Voyager, and Next Generation and my friend who told this to me was talking about it and asking me for ideas for something fast. Then all at once it hit me! Go back to the roots! They are SUPER easy to do this time of year when there is no costume shop to be found and the hardest part will be that badge on there close! So here it is my QUICK & EASY guide to a STAR TREK costume in the middle of January!

First off you need to know a few basic before you pick out the color shirt/ short dress you are going to wear what I had NEVER noticed till looking up how to make my own badge is that there are different ones for different positions! Now if you didn't know that the color of shirt tells people where you sanctioned you might of just randomly picked out a color and did the COMMAND one being that is was Kirk has
The colors are...
  • Mustard-Yellow (Comand - these are the people who are flying the craft.... yeah kinda vague in ST)
  • Baby Blue (Science / Medical - Spock is science and Bones is the medic. Same color, same signage in original series)
  • Red -strait up! (Engineer / Security - Scotty is an engineer and NEVER dies where as EVERY OTHER Red Shirt is security and DIES! Ura, I think she is the only security that lives. Mainly cause she BARELY leaves the craft but hey what ever works!)
These are the symbol with there colors to help out and so you know what field you are doing I also have a picture of the field jobs.
Now that you have chosen your field and have gotten your shirt or dress we move on to decorating it! The women outfits tend to very a bit more then the men's via neck line or around it but for the most part there is a black neck line that you could take a turtleneck, a T-mock, or Dickie to were under or black ribbon to sow / fabric glue it on there!

So with that done move on to the cuffs and badge... I would start with the cuffs just because! So I found these images online to help in rounding up the options then staring at various pictures!

There are a few ways I would go about doing the cuffs, one is to get that gold like spool of non-ribion but sold like it (can't think of it's name) and sow that on in dashes and lines or to use GOLD GLUE (used on fabrics) and glue it!

Way, Way to easy right? Okay cocky, now the badge! Again, you can use some type of fabric or felt and cut it out and BLACK FABRIC GLUE to make it stay OR take your gold glue and glue it out for those afraid of sowing. Now I think to glue it one might be harder just for the fact that you ARE gluing a picture on a shirt! I might get wax paper put a paper drawing under and glue out the gold then take it and glue it on the shirt with black... Might just easier then fighting the shirt!

There you have it! Quick & easy STAR TREK: the Original series cosplay outfit!

Uhm? Pants and shoes!? You can find those in your local Dresser or Closet!

Females: Black Tights and Black Boots (don't have to be Go Go not everyone can wear one do to big caffs!) You could get away with black heels if you wish, but boots is what was in the show!

Men: Black Pants and Black Boots. Could use black shoes and not boots for the same reason a woman might use heels.

Good luck my fellow nerds, Live Long and Prosper!

Reveiw - Rosario + Vampire

Happy New Year! It is a brand new year and did not get as much in learning Korean/Hangul as much as I wanted. I can read it with help now though! And lost more Japanese/Nihongo. Oh well, this is a new year and I will try again to get farther.... in between jobs.

Well, I don't know about you all, but to bring in my new year I watch a show called Rosario + Vampire. For those of you who know what the show is like, you might ask why on EARTH did you watch that? Well, I am a gluten for punishment and I will watch just about anything anime or with Vampires.... (Do to this I saw Twilight and thought about blinding myself for that crap! -sorry fans)

Another reason is it is one of my friends favorite anime, she calls it her guilty pleasure show. She really wasn't far off on that idea. I have heard from other people the same thing. So, if you like LOTS of undergarments shots and boob shots this is your show! But if you are of the faint of heart -or innocent minded, I would not recommend this for you!

So what is this show about? -Besides the underwear and boob shots? Well, it is about a human boy who ends up (by mistake) going to a high school meant for monsters! On his way to school he runs into a pink haired girl and they become fast friends even though she is a Vampire. In next few episode you meet a new monster girls who falls for the poor dumb human and quickly becomes a harem like show... like Tenchi or Ah, My Goddess.

Rubi Tojo
Over all the show is not all bad but there are MANY spots I could not understand what they were thinking?

For example, there is this girl, Rubi Tojo, they show in the opening of the first season but it is not til you are near the end that you meet her and from there on out she is still a VERY small part in the story yet the show her all the time! And then in the Second Season she is not AT ALL the same person! She is always going on about how her helping Jon Doe out is a "Long Story." Now, I did like her in the first season but drove me nuts in the second!

Kurumu

In the second episode of the first season Kurumu here says she is the on the endangered spices list... and is NEVER addressed again! Matter of fact you later see her mother. You never really see more then one of the same monster but wolves and vamps. So how many are "endangered"? And can monsters become endangered? I feel like there could be more of story with her and her kind yet they leave it hanging.... This bugged me but not really needed in the grand scheme of things.

I think the character I had the most trouble with is Tsukune AND both Mokas. In this one scene near the end of season one Tsukune is killed and the "vampire" Moka gives him her blood and at some point she flicks his nose and then later on yet the "nice" Moka does the same and he asked himself if he was falling for the "Vampire" Moka.... This isn't really flushed out till season 2. Later in season 2 the "nice" one notes that her "other half" is in love with him too.

The white haired Moka is the "real" Moka and the pink haired was made to "protect her." Protect her from whom by masking her power? NOT REALLY stated.... But yet in season 2 the pink Moka is her own person made by her rosary.

Here are others rants about RV and other fun titbits about the Word "ECCHI" and why the different kinds of underwear shots!
